HOMINY, Oklahoma - A "Twilight" star is teaming up with the Osage Foundation and Fully Funded Films to shed light on an untold story. They hope to make a film called "Playground of the Native Son." The 1925 Hominy Indians professional football team represented 14 different tribes from 1925-1936. "This is just another minority team that was really never recognized and we think it's about time they're recognized," associate producer Julia Lookout said. In 1927, the world-champion New York Giants agreed to play Hominy in what they thought would be a joke. "The coup de grace is the fact that they played the New York Giants and they beat them, so we decided to do a documentary and talk to a lot of the ancestors," Lookout said. Chaske Spencer is the special guest speaker at a fundraising event for the film. He's best known as the wolf pack leader in the blockbuster-hit "Twilight" series. "I feel really good about this," Spencer said. "It's a story that needs to be told and I think it's going to be a very good movie." Spencer was born in Tahlequah. As an American Indian actor, he's excited to see a movie highlighting his people and his culture. "I think any movie about Native Americans is a positive step forward, especially a movie like this," Spencer said. Michael Nash is the film's director. "I actually think this is the 'Rocky' of their story," Nash said. After digging through the Hominy Indians' history, Nash feels this is a story everyone needs to hear. "I'm really excited to tell this story," Nash said. "I'm excited to tell this story about the group of Indians that came together and beat the world champions." They plan to recreate the historic win for the documentary. The director says they're looking for lean, quick guys between the age of 15 and 30 to be on the football teams. Lakota actor Chaske Spencer grew up with the ambition of becoming a photographer, but eventually ended up in front of the camera in one of the most successful film franchises in history, The Twilight Saga. He and several other Native actors play Quileute tribal members who happen to be shape-shifting werewolves – known as the Wolfpack—who battle it out with vampires. Spencer reprises his role of alpha werewolf pack leader Sam Uley in the fifth and final film of the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2, premiering November 16.

Spencer’s journey has taken him from rural reservations in Idaho and Montana to the bright lights of New York where he’s now based. But he gets around. Recent work has taken him to Montana’s Fort Belknap Reservation, to shoot the film adaptation of the late Blackfeet author James Welch’s Winter In the Blood; to Australia, where he filmed the well-received but canceled NBC pilot shot in Australia, Frontier, and to the San Carlos Apache reservation to shoot the award-winning drama Shouting Secrets. Spencer spoke with ICTMN about his Twilight experiences, being an outspoken activist for positive change, and his never ending personal quest to grow as an artist.

How has growing up on various Indian reservations influenced your outlook on life?
I’ve lived on the Fort Peck, Northern Cheyenne, and the Nez Perce Reservations. I actually had a good time on all of those places and particularly enjoyed the family aspect of living there. There was a lot of poverty there and all that, and one of the reservations I moved to in the 80’s I’ll always remember had this horrible sulfuric smell in their tap water. I didn’t think much about it because I didn’t know any better or even know about life off the reservation. But just like everywhere in the world where people grow up in a lower end economic tier, I really do appreciate what I have the more I move up. It’s affected my political outlook as it’s helped me see behind the smoke and mirrors of how the U.S. government propaganda works, and what the media presents about American culture. So I took that background with me when I went to New York and started working as an actor, and I carry that with me to this day.

Twilight Saga according to Sam Uley (Chaske Spencer)

Forget about Bella and Edward Cullen. Sure, we were fascinated with their love story as the Twilight saga unfolded on-screen — but did you ever wonder what might happen if the vampires maybe weren't the stars of the show? Hollywood.com got the chance to chat with actor Chaske Spencer, who plays werewolf Sam Uley in the franchise, and Spencer came up with his own version of Twilight starring his werewolf character. From a werewolf wedding to the werewolf bachelor party, this is Sam's love story as told by Spencer:

Title: Fifty Shades of Hair

Setting: We’d stick to Vancouver. Vancouver is gorgeous. I love Vancouver.

Part One: Boy Meets Girl

Once upon a time, there was a guy named Sam Uley. He was dating this girl, Emily. They were really having a great time. They were parking, making out, and just having a great young lovers' time. But, next thing you know, he started to change because those damn Cullens started showing up. He didn’t understand what was going on so he went to investigate, and he came to find out through legends and other tales that he happened to be a werewolf, and he hated it.

Then one day, he just flipped out. He broke up with and broke little Emily’s heart because he fell in love with her cousin. But that didn't last long. He breaks up with the cousin. And she becomes devastated because she ends up becoming a werewolf. Next thing you know, he’s back with Emily.

Now it's Emily's turn. He accidentally slashes her face during a shape-shifting period. And she forgave him. She probably has some codependency issues, maybe some father issues. But she gets back together with him and they live happily ever after with him until the Cullens show up.

Next thing you know, his boy Jacob is starting to shift and Jacob just screws everything up. He fell In love with Bella and Bella is in love with Edward and we get caught up in the middle. Sam would just assume they all move away and Jacob get over it because he liked his life before that. It was very peaceful. But no, he’s got to go in and do his job to protect the treaty, honor the treaty. Once he's done with Jacob and Bella's drama, it's back to Sam's love story.

Part 2: The Bachelor Party

Now back to Sam and Emily. They decide to take the next step and become husband and wife, but before that can happen, the boys must celebrate. And where else do boys go for some adult entertainment than a strip club?

I think we would probably go down to Seattle and hang out at Deja Vu on an off night. When it’s not crowded, we’d rent the whole place out. We’d stick to the humans as strippers. It would definitely be a party. Maybe rent a jet and go to France or something.

Of course, Sam would want some Volturi to show up to liven the party.

Part 3: The Wedding

There would be a lot of KFC, orange Sunkist, and probably a lot of hip hop music. That’s how we’d throw it down. Then we’d have the Cullens over. Everyone would be happy. Now that we are all bonded and friends now, we’d have a good throw down. There would be horseshoe throwing, shape shifting, seeing who can outrun each other. And Sam would pick Paul as his best man. All the folks would be there. It would be something out of like Guns N' Roses "November Rain."

Part 4: The Birth Scene

That would be cool to have little wolf kids running around. But there wouldn't be a birth scene like in Breaking Dawn - Part 1. That would be gross. I don’t know if I could do that. I have a hard time with births, just watching them on the History Channel. I’d probably cut right through it. You would just see her holding the kid.

Part 5: The Epic Battle

Of course a Twilight spin-off concludes with a good fight scene. There would be a lot more fighting. There would be a thousand more fights. We’d take on everything. Then somewhere along the way, it would just turn into a whole different film all together. Let’s throw some aliens in there too. They come down. In one scene, the wolf pack goes against the aliens and we all had to fight in the Egyptian pyramids. The the volturi and all the other vampires from all over the world come come in at the last minute to save our asses. We think we’re down, we’re getting beat. But the vampires come in and help us save the day.

The End

We eat at the local buffet. Settle down. Occasionally I’ll go down to Palm Springs, do a little vacation there. Leave the kids. And Sam just wants to sit on his porch and smoke on his pipe and chill out. They live happily ever after.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 drops in theaters Nov. 16.

A brand new clip from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 was revealed at Sitges Film Festival last week (which Chaske Spencer attended on behalf of the film), and now it's online for fans to watch!

The clip presents two of the same scenes seen before from the film - the one revealed during Target's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 DVD parties in February and the one of Bella (Kristen Stewart)'s first hunt shown during Comic-Con.

Adding to that, a new scene involving the Cullens trying to teach Bella how to handle being around Charlie for the first time is in the mix as well (at the 2:00 mark!).
The dialogue for the scene is as follows:

    Alice (Ashley Greene): They'll irritate your eyes at first.
    Carlisle (Peter Facinelli): The main thing is not to move too fast.
    Esme (Elizabeth Reaser): Try taking a seat, crossing your legs.
    [Bella races to the seat and awkwardly crosses her legs.]
    Esme: Maybe a tad slower.
    Alice: And blink at least three times a minute.
    [Bella blinks quickly.]
    Alice: Good!
    Jacob (Taylor Lautner): ... For a cartoon character.
    Carlisle: Hold your breath. It'll help with the thirst.
    Edward (Robert Pattinson): Just don't forget to move your shoulders, so it looks like you're breathing.
    Rosalie (Nikki Reed): And don't sit so straight. Humans don't do that.
    Bella: I got it. Move around, blink, slouch.

Halloween Wars bragging rights at stake on Food Network

Halloween Wars, that spinetinglingly delicious Halloween treat pitting five teams against one another in a battle to create the ultimate themed display is returning for a second season beginning Sunday, 7 October 2012 on the Food Network. Hosted by the Cupcake Wars’ Justin William, the season two judging panel will include renowned cake decorator Shinmin Li and award-winning special effects, make-up artist and horror actor/director Tom Savini as well as a guest judge that will change each episode.  One team will be eliminated each week until only the frighteningly best remain. The team that survives and emerges victorious in Halloween Wars will take home $50,000.

Evil Clowns

The first of Halloween Wars four battles challenges the five teams to create the most terrifying clown imaginable. With each team made up of a cake artist, a candy craftsman and a pumpkin carving expert, guest judge Shawnee Smith (Saw, Anger Management) is sure to be treated to more than a few tricks in the Season Two Premiere on 7 October 2012!

Bon Temps’ newest vampire tests the four remaining teams asking them to capture the epic battle in which a vampire slays his prey. Maybe guest judge Rutina Wesley (True Blood) will get some ideas for eliminating Billith in Season 6 as Halloween Wars eliminates another team on 14 October 2012.

 

  Science Gone Wrong

October 21st

Halloween Wars brings out the monsters on 21 October 2012 as the three remaining teams capture that terrifying moment when a mad scientist’s creation goes horribly wrong. Good thing they’ll have a werewolf on hand if things get messy! Chaske Spencer (the Twilight Saga) is the guest judge who will help narrow things down to the top two teams.

 

 

Zombie Wedding

October 28th

Every fairy tale, even a twisted one, has to have a happy ending. The Halloween Wars are no different. In the epic finale, the two surviving teams must create a romantic yet horrific scene from a zombie wedding to win the $50,000 prize. Sara Canning (Vampire Diaries) joins the judging panel to crown the champion just in time for Halloween on 28 October 2012.
Check your local listings for time and station information because you won’t want to miss the second season of Halloween Wars. Who knows, you might even pick up some tricks you can treat your own ghouls and ghouls to!

A star from the “Twilight” movie franchise will be on hand at the annual Harvest Pow Wow at Naper Settlement this weekend.

Chaske Spencer, who stars as werewolf Sam Uley, will sign autographs and greet fans. Spencer is of Sioux descent and is a member of the Fort Peck Reservation. He will represent the non-profit organization United Global Shift.

“He should be a big draw,” said Midwest SOARRING Foundation board president Joseph Standing Bear Schranz. “We’re very pleased to have him. He’s quite popular with the young people. He’s also native. And we wanted to have a wolf preservation platform this year.”

The 18th annual Pow Wow will take place 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 22 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Naper Settlement in Naperville. The event celebrates Native-American heritage with dancing, cultural demonstrations, food and craft vendors, children’s games and crafts and more. (Spencer will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 23.)

Other highlights include Native-American dancing and drumming, “flintknapping” (arrowhead making), the wolf-dogs from Wolf Mountain Sanctuary (the wolves were the models for the “Twilight” series, Schranz said), and an eagle and other birds of prey from Save Our American Raptors. Musical entertainment will be provided by native flute players and an indigenous group of teen rockers.

“We’ll have many fine vendors and great food vendors,” he said. “We’ll have a Hawaiian group that’s really outstanding. We’re looking forward to them; they’re quite a crowd pleaser.”

Those would be the Hana Hou Hula Hawaiian dancers at 5 p.m. Sept. 22.

“We’ll have a couple teepees up, and we’re going to have an Ojibwa wigwam also,” he said. “We’re adding features every day. We’re really trying to cram pack this with things to do. Plus the value of the Naper Settlement itself, which has all the re-enactors with all their period costumes and houses.”

The Kids’ Corner will be back again, providing children with a chance to create a Native-American craft to take home.
“One of the things we do is a bison tooth necklace with an authentic bison tooth,” Schranz said.

He hopes visitors will not only learn about and appreciate Native-American life and customs, but also learn more about the group’s work with indigenous plants, the environment, bison and cultural education.

“It’s a cultural gathering, but it’s much more than that. It’s bringing people together of all colors and realizing some of the good things and bad things we need to fix,” he said. “It goes to help all of the things that we do.”
